How do I join the church?
The invitation to make a profession of faith in Jesus Christ and the invitation to join the church are made almost every Sunday at the end of worship. If you would like to join the church, we ask that you complete the back of the "How to Join" card that is in the pews in the sanctuary. During the final song of the worship service, you walk to the front of the church to meet the pastors and express your desire to join the church. The pastors will welcome you to the congregation, ask you to affirm your desire to join, ask you to commit to the vows of membership, and the congregation will welcome you.

I’m currently a member of another church, but would like to transfer my membership to FUMC Keller. How do I do this?
All you need to do is complete the "How to Join" card that is in the pews in the sanctuary. You will list the church where you are currently a member. After you join the church during worship, our office staff will contact your former church to request that your membership be transferred.

Why do people come to the front of the church when they join?
We believe that when you join the church, you are joining the community. We request that you join during worship so that you can meet your new church family and they can meet you. If, however, this is something is extremely uncomfortable for you, we encourage you to discuss your situation with one of the pastors.

What is expected of a member of First United Methodist Church of Keller?
When individuals join the church, they are asked if they will support the church through our vows of membership. These vows ask that members will support the church in five ways:
•With their prayers–-we expect members to pray for the church and its members.
•With their presence–-we expect members to be present in worship and to consider joining a small group.
•With their gifts–-we expect members to give back to the church through their tithes and offerings.
•With their service–-we expect members to serve within and/or outside of the church so that we can be the hands of feet of Christ in this world!
•With their witness–-we expect members to share their Christian faith with others through words and actions.

What about baptism?
In the United Methodist Church we believe that baptism is God's gift to God's people. Therefore, we accept the baptism that you may have received when you were a child or that you may have received in a church of another denomination. Membership in the United Methodist Church is given to baptized adults or confirmed youth. If you are an adult who has not previously been baptized and you would like to join the church, please contact one of the pastors and we would love to meet with you to discuss your faith journey, baptism, and membership in the church.

What about my kids? What is Confirmation?
When your family joins our congregation, adults and confirmed youth are full members. Younger children are preparatory members. This allows the church to join with your family in teaching your children about the faith. We offer the Confirmation program to youth beginning in the sixth grade. In this class youth learn about the faith, the church, and are offered the opportunity to take the vows of membership at the end of the program. The program is called Confirmation because it is designed to help youth "confirm" the faith that their parents and the community have taught them during their childhood.

First Connections is a one-session orientation for guests and new members to meet the people of the church and find out how you can get connected at FUMC Keller! For more information contact Pastor Leslie Byrd at leslieb@kellerumc.org.
